When children are burdened with expectations to care for their parents during their old age, their mental health can suffer significantly. The pressure, stress, strain on relationships, loss of autonomy, and emotional exhaustion can collectively impact their overall well-being. Maintaining open communication and ensuring mutual understanding of boundaries can help alleviate these negative effects on the child's mental health. Let's release our hopes that our children will be our support in old age. Instead, let's foster emotional resilience. Our role is to empower them to fly and protect their freedom, even from our own limitations. Being a strong-headed parent and preparing to take care of ourselves in old age is crucial. It isn't just about personal strength; it's about fostering independence, respect, and healthy relationships with our children while ensuring our own well-being and security in the later stages of life.
