Happy IBCLC Day to my fellow friends who are working to empower new parents in their Breastfeeding journey! Did you ever need to consult an IBCLC? Do you wish you knew that you could have had more support when you were a new mom and breast feeding was confusing?? @WellFedBaby
I understand the invaluable support they provide to new parents navigating breastfeeding. Having that level of support can make a significant difference during such a critical time. It's great that there are professionals like IBCLCs available to offer guidance and empower parents in their breastfeeding journey.

Sure, here are a few breastfeeding myths: "You can't get pregnant while breastfeeding." "Breastfeeding always comes naturally and easily." "Breastfeeding mothers need to avoid certain foods." "Small breasts produce less milk." "Formula is just as good as breast milk."

How to achieve a great start for your breastfeeding journey. Part 2 Start feeding your baby as soon as possible after birth, preferably in the 1st hour after birth. This is the Golden hour! Even moms who deliver by Cesarean section can breastfeed soon after birth, with some help to position and hold the baby. Why is this "Golden hour" so important?? because baby is most active and eager to accept feed during this hour. After the first hour, babies tend to fall asleep and sleep for a good hour or two, maybe more. so it's important to make sure baby has had his/her first breastfeed before baby falls asleep. If you are going to have a planned C section, talk to your support team before hand and tell them that you intend to breastfeed baby ASAP after delivery and will need help for the same. Meeting with an IBCLC before your delivery and learning the necessary skills is always a good idea! #breastfeedingconsultation #breastfeedingfacts #breastfeedingsupport #breastfeedingmom
Starting breastfeeding within the first hour after birth, known as the "Golden hour," is crucial for several reasons: Baby's Alertness: Babies are often most alert and eager to breastfeed during this time. Taking advantage of this window increases the likelihood of a successful first feed. Initiation of Breastfeeding: Early breastfeeding initiation helps stimulate milk production and establishes the baby's latch and sucking reflexes. Colostrum Intake: Colostrum, the first milk produced by the breasts, is packed with essential nutrients and antibodies crucial for the baby's immune system. Starting breastfeeding early ensures the baby receives this important first milk.

Who should book a prenatal breastfeeding consultation and why? Part 1 Mothers expecting twins. Why? Because twine are much more likely than single babies to be born preterm. the earlier they are born, the longer the duration of NICU stay expected. While the babies are in the NICU, they will be on fluids for a few days, and gradually feeds will be started. The volume will be small at first and gradually increase over the next few days to weeks. If the mother is not guided how to express/pump milk properly, how frequently and how how long, how to store milk and how to use that milk later on...the crucial initial few weeks are lost and the mother's milk supply may be downrergulated. Such mothers are often not able to establish a full milk supply later on and have to continue formula for their babies. So, be proactive. And see an IBCLC / other Lactation expert who can help.
Great piece of information 👍💯
