Today on February 14th, Valentine's Day is celebrated. It is to honor Saint Valentine, a Christian martyr who was known for performing secret marriages. The day has evolved into a global celebration of love and romance, amongst all cultures and religions. Beyond romantic love, this day has expanded to celebrate friendships and self-love. Many people use the occasion to appreciate their friends, family, and even themselves. In some countries, traditions differ—Finland and Estonia observe “Friendship Day,” emphasizing platonic relationships, while in Japan, women give chocolates to men, with men returning the favor on White Day in March. Whether through grand gestures or small, meaningful acts, Valentine’s Day serves as a reminder that love, in all its forms, is worth celebrating.
