Let’s talk about the sneaky ways your mind might be tricking you into negative thinking! These patterns twist reality, making everything feel more stressful, overwhelming, or personal than it actually is. Here are some common ones: 1️⃣ Overgeneralization: Making broad statements based on a single event. Example: ‘I failed once, so I’ll fail at everything.’ One setback doesn’t define all future outcomes! 2️⃣ Mental Filtering: Focusing only on the negative while ignoring the positive. Example: ‘Everyone complimented me except one person—so I must not have done well.’ What about all the good feedback you got? 3️⃣ Discounting the Positive: Rejecting positive experiences or compliments. Example: ‘Sure, I got an A, but it was just luck.’ Recognize your achievements for what they are! 4️⃣ Emotional Reasoning: Believing that your feelings reflect reality. Example: ‘I feel anxious, so something must be wrong.’ Just because you feel it, doesn’t mean it’s true! 5️⃣ Should Statements: Setting unrealistic expectations for yourself or others with "shoulds" and "musts." Example: ‘I should be perfect at everything I do.’ These rigid rules create unnecessary stress! 6️⃣ Magnification/Minimization: Blowing things out of proportion or downplaying positive aspects. Example: ‘My mistake is huge!’ or ‘This success doesn’t really matter.’ Both distort how you see the situation. 🛑 These distortions fuel anxiety and self-doubt. Next time you notice them creeping in, pause, challenge the thought, and ask yourself—‘Is this really true?’ Your mind can be your biggest ally once you break these patterns! #CognitiveDistortions #MentalHealthMatters #ChallengeYourThoughts #MindsetShift #TherapyTips #SelfAwareness #PositiveThinking
