I've been dating my boyfriend for a couple of years, and things are going great. We both decide it's time to take the next step and move in together. However, I start to wonder why some people choose to get engaged before making this move. Is there a reason for that extra commitment before sharing a home? If you've been through this or know someone who has, I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences. Why get engaged before moving in?

This might be because of mindset and taboo, that its not entirely physical or a less serious thing, so to make it official people engage and then live in to reduce the stigma, but its not a hard & fast rule

I think it's a couple's choose to get engaged or not. It's not necessary to get engaged first and th3n move in.

It's not about the extra commitment but the society we live in. People see non wed couples as criminals today

There is a lot of stigma around live in relationships that can cause misconceptions among people whether it is required or not. It can act as a trial run and make sure you both have the compatibility right and are adjusted with each others living styles before getting married or engaged.
