Emotional well being is key to overall physical and mental well-being. It is even more relevant in today's life which is full of stressor and the way we react to these stressors or for that matter any situation impacts our overall health. In order to stay emotionally healthy a simple technique can be of great use. One can follow the 'STOP' technique when there is a need to respond immediately. Sometimes we react instantaneously which makes us regret later. Instead of reacting to a situation, one can follow the four simple steps. 1. stop and pause the thought process. This is important as our mind brings in a lot of information in a fraction of a second, some of it may be useful and a lot of it may not be, 2. take few deep breaths to bring yourself in the present, 3. observe what is going on, how your emotions and thought process are reacting to the situation while bringing in a lot of bodily sensations, then 4.proceed with your action. This gives you time to make an internal choice to incorporate in the situation. Your observation of the sensations, emotions, and thoughts in the given situation would have given you a lot of information about how you must respond. Here, the internal narrative should always be that of considering oneself as an observer outside of a situation. This gives that much more time to identify the problem and respond appropriately.more
