Okay, girls, this is messing with my head. So, me and my boyfriend have been together for a while, and things have been amazing. But lately, I feel like I'm constantly on top of him, and it's suffocating us both. I just need some breathing room to focus on myself and my passions again. But can you really love someone and still crave space? Like, is this normal, or am I being weird?
Hi , I am Ananya Consul, I am a Psychologist. Yes, it is completely normal to love someone yet need space, because that is something that is a part of your personality. The space also gives you a chance to grow independently and might also lead to a healthier relationship. Just make sure you communicate it to your partner to avoid any confusion or misunderstanding. How do I cope with feelings of having to always justify my need for personal space in a joint family??
Hi There, My name is Ananya Consul and I am a Psychologist. I hear you and note that you are feeling deprived of personal space. A joint family does have a lot of members of different ages, every one has a different mindset and opinion. Hence, there is a high chance that they may not be able to understand your need of personal space. Always trying to justify yourself may make you feel annoyed and irritated, you might also feel misunderstood at times. It's good that you are able to tell them that you need personal space but in order to deal with the feelings, try some grounding exercises like the 54321 method i.e, focus on 5 things you can see, 4things you can touch , 3 things you can hear, 2 things you can smell and one thing you can taste. This will help you manage your feelings at the moment and cope better. To know more about coping strategies join me on my next live.

How can I set boundaries with my in-laws as they always invade the privacy of me and my husband. Yes, we both are viable to them, but that doesn’t mean they cross the line right?
Hi there , My name is Ananya Consul. I see that you are struggling to form boundaries with your In-Laws. It might help if you could note what kind of communication approach works with them. Try reaching out to one of them you feel would be more responsive, and after creating a positive environment, try to let out how you feel. Try not to come across as putting blame or being offensive instead try to show how privacy is important to you . If this helps or you have questions, join my community or feel free to join my live sessions.

Is giving space to each other a form of ignoring?? Is space important for people in relationship?? Will it help in healing a relationship and person or will it lead to more ignorance and strange feelings?
Hi, This is Ananya Consul, I am a Psychologist. Giving Space can be done in two ways, you can either communicate to your partner , why you need the space or you can ignore them. However, Ignoring them will only lead to miscommunication and confusion. Hence , Giving space is ok and might also heal a relationship but only if you discuss with your partner why and how you want the space. If this resonated with you, do join my next live session

How can I give space to my boyfriend without losing him?? I don’t want to drift apart from him after we get back from all this space issue.
Hi there My name is Ananya Consul and I'm a Psychologist. Giving Space might not necessarily be a bad thing, it might give room to the relationship to breathe. If there is insecurity in you that you might drift apart and lose your boyfriend, you might want to note why that is. Why are you scared that you'll lose him, what are the things that might lead to that or why do you think you will drift apart, what is the proof that what you are thinking will actually happen? Until then , you can try and focus on why you committed to him in the first place and then you can also focus on all the good things that have happened, so as to reduce your insecurity. If this seems helpful to you, feel free to join my live or my community so that I can provide my support in a better and helpful manner.

Okay, so cohabitation isn't the only question. How long should you date before getting married anyway? Is there a perfect timeline, or is it more about personal connection and readiness?
Hi, This is Ananya Consul, I am a Psychologist. While It is about personal connection and readiness, it is also about making sure that you know your partner and are at a stable position in your life where you know that you are confident and capable for the change that marriage brings with itself. There is no particular timeline and such experiences are unique for each individual. If this helps , join me on my next live session so that we can explore this more

My mother-in-law constantly criticizes my parenting style. It makes me feel like I'm doing everything wrong! How do you handle unsolicited advice and criticism from others about how you raise your child?
Hi, This is Ananya Consul, I am a Psychologist. Your Mother in Law and you are two different individuals , hence you and her might not have the same parenting style. It makes sense that in such a case she might criticise things that do not resonate with her. What you can do in this situation is try to block out her criticism and try to see for yourself, if your parenting style is right, by trying to note all the good things and improvements in your child. Anytime, you feel overwhelmed by the criticism try to remove your self from the environment and practice focused deep breathing. I hope this was helpful, if yes, do join my next live session.

My partner and I are getting married soon, and they're feeling overwhelmed with anxiety. Can I take some kind of approved leave to support them during this stressful time? Indian leave policies can be complex, but I'm hoping there's an option that can help.
Hi, This is Ananya Consul, I am a Psychologist. This might be a very company specific query, because each company defines their policies according to them, but if you think that this is a grave situation, then maybe you can try writing to your HR and see how they respond.

I'm in a highly competitive field like medicine. The pressure to succeed is immense, and the fear of failing feels like a constant weight. How do I cope with the fear
Hi, My name is Ananya Consul, I am a Psychologist. I hear you and competition is scary. There can be multiple things fuelling the fear. Try to keep your thoughts positive, if ever you face statements of self doubt like What if I fail? or Will I succeed ? try writing them down and try to question them like why will I fail? who says I will fail ? I've succeeded so many times before , why will I fail now. The answers to these questions will either lift you up or tell you about your weakness, after which you can work on them. Follow this by positive affirmations like I can do this. If this helps , do join me on my next live session.
Answer
How can I handle conflicts between my spiritual beliefs and those of my family as we do not seem to have the same thoughts.
Hi, I am Ananya Consul, I am a Psychologist. To handle a situation like this , you may want to allow yourself to accept that they have beliefs of their own like you have yours , and try to be respectful to their beliefs ( doesn't mean you have to follow them), and ask your parents to be respectful to yours. You cannot change beliefs but you can live in harmony with other's beliefs. If this helps , do join my next live
