Hey!! This is Anita from Thiruvananthapuram. Lately my partner is being very disrespectful towards me and sometimes my family. We both are working but he is a senior to me and hence works more to earn more. That's the basis why I'm being looked down upon. Not directly but indirectly in a joke way he always tries to demean me by commenting on the money we make. What should I do ??? Any advice

whenever there is any discomfort in any relation..there is a missing conversation! if you are experiencing disrespect from your partner it's important to have an open conversation and thrash out any biases he may have knowingly/unknowingly fostered about you. it's important you show how you are experiencing it and that you don't feel respected. such conversations help clear spaces which maybe blind to him and you. be respectful, keep your intentions clear, respect yourself enough to have this conversation

Ok Simran! Thanks for sharing. Red flags could be: 1) Talk about your ambition and that you would like to head an organisation, team, business and see the person's reaction? Is he supportive? Try to guage how does he feel if your salary would be more than him, would he be open to stay at home and take care of children and let the wife work? 2) Also, see how his reaction is on the kind of clothes you choose to wear. How cool is he about it? Short skirts etc? 3) On household chores is he willing to be a partner to that? 4) Try to Guage on how was he brought up? Does his father help his mother in the household chores.. Some checkpoints. Still you may not be able to assess, but see how he reacts and what is his attitude towards all of these?
