Hey @Zanzanil What was the status of divorced women in Hinduism? Did they enjoy full rights of freedom or treated differently once they were left or had left their husbands?

In Hinduism, the status of divorced women historically varied depending on cultural and societal norms prevalent in different regions and time periods. While Hindu scriptures and texts do not explicitly address divorce, they do provide some guidance on marital relationships and the treatment of women. In ancient times, divorce was not common in Hindu society, and women were generally expected to remain faithful to their husbands throughout their lives. However, there were provisions for divorce in certain circumstances, such as adultery or abandonment by the husband. The status of divorced women in Hindu society varied. In some cases, divorced women may have faced social stigma or discrimination, as divorce was often seen as a failure and could impact a woman's reputation and social standing. Additionally, divorced women may have faced challenges in terms of economic support and social integration, particularly if they did not have the support of their families or communities.

I think irrespective of the religion women in every religion more or less are in the same situation. They don't enjoy full freedom rights. some get divorced but some still find it difficult to divorce and continue in an abusive marriage.

Is it so difficult for a woman to remarry after a divorce? @DrSapna
DrSapna4d
Hi… remarrying after the divorce is difficult because after the first experience and since the age has also matured our expectations are much higher and we usually have a list of what we do not want. To find the right person is the difficulty. If there are children involved the concerns of both the parties increase. It is very important to do a thorough background check for the Cause of his divorce. It is also important to understand oneself be candid about mistakes. We might have made in the first marriage and also be clear Why do we want the second marriage. marriage means compromise adjustment and some sacrifice. No matter how many times you marry. These are the changes , we all need to bring in ourselves. ,. And when we want to take all of these into consideration, the choice of groom becomes limited. Of course there might be some family or community restrictions, but Post families weren’t there divorce daughters to remarry
Because in India eeryone including women consider woman must be arogant so her marriage didn't work. No one considers as it could be a man's fault. We have to start from ourselves. We should go to the root cause of divorce and should try to know reasons and conditions of both partners. When every woman starts doing it, definitely in future this condition can be changed. Also because of past trauma of failed relationship makes a lady hesitant to move ahead. But she should believe that not every man will be of same quality. So first start believing in yourself and move ahead. Just be conscious now when you are choosing next partner.

Why do most women divorce their husbands once they lose their jobs? @RC_Mayanka
It's not always true. But it's like - their life, their rules. If she loves him deeply and ready to struggle with him in any situation she will become his biggest support. But in past life,if he haven't treated her well, never given any importance to her requirements then how can she consider to be with him forever? Some of the woman can be pretty practical and understand that now he can't bear there expenses. So it's her choice to leave him. Some husband are so erogant ...like रस्सी जल गयी पर बल नहीं गया| They keep treating their partner like slave, then they deserve it. In every relationship, the cause can be different other than just loosing job.

Hi, the reason is quite simple. Because no job means no stability and no women would want that.

There's so much cases which are not talked about in India. I only heard about how men leave their women for various reasons until I got to know about the stats today. Women actually divorce more men than they do for whatsoever reasons. But why is this happening so often now. Why can't men be a lil sensible about their relationships for one woman atleast?? @Relationshipcoachchitkala
Anonymous1d
I think it's very common....the struggles are very common in marriages nowadays from both the sides ...that's why people are separating

I think women are becoming more independent these days so they don't tend to get oppressed under men like the old times.

My friend recently got married and only in 2 weeks she decided that her husband can't satisfy her and keep her happy. The thing is she got to know her Husband has a small penis which she didn't liked and is very angry about this. Now I'm thinking is it legally correct to file for divorce if you found that your husband has a small penis? @DrSapna

This needs to be answered by a professional and a good one for this sake
You need to consult a lawyer who knows about this.

Lately it seems like more and more of my female friends and family members have been the ones initiating divorce proceedings with their husbands. I can't help but wonder - what's driving this trend of women being the ones asking for divorce more often these days? Is it because we're becoming more financially independent and don't feel stuck in unhappy marriages? Or are we just generally more empowered to prioritize our own needs and happiness? @Relationshipcoachchitkala
I believe divorce are increasing because of expectation from marriges are very high especially in love marriage and after marriage all expectation are just like imagination and the reallity is totally different. relation between husband and wife will be good if in laws not interfere between them.
sometimes in a relationship is a suffocating each other.....because of lots of interference of little things... and make a desigen without asking...

Why are educated women heading towards divorce more than uneducated women? @Relationshipcoachchitkala
Over ages, women want their man slightly stronger than them to feel at comfort to grow more. All women rather female species are designed for continuous growth.. Self growth in humans. Basic fuel for this growth is appreciation and acceptance. These days is tough to find a partner for a women who she considers better than her. And its difficult for the partner to appreciate and accept the success of the lady. That's the primary reason. Right or Wrong.. What's the right approach.. Thats another big concern to talk about 😊
As you get more intelligent, experienced & achieve a level it becomes very difficult to accept someone lesser than yourself. There are typical expectations which do not match the mindsets, so it is better to avoid than to live through the compromises.

I know someone, my relative actually. she started living separately from her husband because they had issues going on. They are now separate from 2 years I guess. The thing is I'm thinking why aren't they getting divorced officially. Why to remain connected legally if they have so many problems. I don't understand this idea of them. I'm completely confused. Why do most women not go for divorce and rather just choose to live separately after a failed marriage? @Nazneen
Anonymous6d
See...People staying connected is not an issue as long as their problems are not affecting their lives ones. They surely would have their own reasons to do so
There could be many reasons. I feel it’s a personal choice. Maybe some people do it out of hope that things may resolve sooner or later. Some folks do it to avoid the tag of a divorce which unfortunately is a taboo in India. Some people may not want to go through the legal process. Can be tons of reasons

Women's rights refer to the fundamental rights and freedoms that every woman and girl should have, regardless of their race, age, religion, nationality, or socio-economic status. These rights are based on the principle of gender equality and should apply in all spheres of life, including social, political, and economic domains. Key aspects of women's rights include: 1. **Political Rights:** Women should have the same rights as men to vote, run for political office, and participate in all levels of government. This also includes their right to influence policies and laws that affect their lives. 2. **Economic Rights:** Women should have equal access to employment and fair working conditions. They should receive equal pay for equal work, have the right to own property, and have equal access to economic resources such as education and training. 3. **Social Rights:** Women should have access to all social services, including healthcare and education. This also includes the right to live free from gender-based violence, harassment, and discrimination. 4. **Reproductive Rights:** Women should have the right to control their reproductive health and choices. This includes the right to access contraception, safe and legal abortion, and quality reproductive healthcare. 5. **Legal Rights:** Women should be equal before the law, with the right to sue and be sued, and the right to testify in court. They should also be protected by laws that penalize gender-based violence and discrimination. 6. **Cultural Rights:** Women should have the right to freely participate in the cultural life of their community, and to be free from cultural practices that harm or discriminate against them. Despite significant progress in many parts of the world, women's rights are still violated or neglected in many contexts. Advocacy for women's rights seeks to challenge and change these circumstances, with the aim of achieving equality and justice for all women.more
