Am I possibly asexual? Despite not engaging in sexual activities for a while, I feel relieved and don't expect to. Why do healthcare providers sometimes react with alarm or skepticism when I mention my lack of sexual activity? Do others in the asexual community encounter similar attitudes from healthcare providers? How do they handle such situations? Is there a tendency for asexuality to be dismissed as an invalid sexual orientation?

Doctors themselves are often unaware or less educated on the spectrum. Talking to a physcologist or psychiatrist could help to understand more as they are often educated on the nuances of the sexual spectrum. I feel a great way to understand your sexual preferences more and even know that you aren't alone is by seeking forums or online groups on the same. They are often quite insightful on how you feel and what you are experiencing

A lot of people, including healthcare providers, are not educated on this topic. It might be a possibility that you are asexual and exploring your sexuality in a forum where you feel comfortable is what I encourage you to do! You can always seek out a queer affirmative therapist to help you figure out your sexuality!
