You can decide a minimum amount of time that you expect from him, and try to come and negotiate on middle ground where your needs are also met and you also feel wanted in this relationship otherwise you wilk always dissatisfied

Sure! You can. When you are dealing with such kind of issues which are not related with past then there are respective therapies for it. or otherwise instead of counselling you can go for coaching.It all depends upon the kind of issue you are dealing with.
