Hey @Drkalpana my daughter is turning 9 and I know it's time that she might be having periods anytime. I'm feeling a bit clueless about how to talk to her about periods. She hasn't been so friendly with me as I have always tried to teach her things that she didn't like. Now I want to talk to her about periods, so that she gets necessary information and gets comfortable with sharing such personal things with me. How should I Start this topic without getting stressed?

First and foremost build a good rapport with your daughter.. Teach her food things, manners etc but in thevway she understands . Often parents in the process of disciplining their children become very firm and strict forget about the repercussions it can have on the child... the child will drift away.

Then your conversation should start on day of your periods. You should tell her what you are going through right now. Means like you are having pain and bleeding through vagina as periods/menses. Then she will ask you about periods. Here you can explain her- We have a bag for baby in which she had also formed. it's called Uterus. Every month your body makes a new seed and inner lining of uterus newly to prepare healthy bed for a baby. But if it is unused, it has to washed away through periods. So we girls or women have periods every month. In some months or a year/ 2 she will also have periods. If it happens, you can tell your mom or if you are in school tell your teacher about it. You can take help of Magazines like Menstrupedia. May be this open conversation can be start of your friendly relationship with your daughter. Best of luck 👍

#PeriodTalk We all know from common knowledge that an ideal period lasts between 3-5 days. However, for some women periods can last for 7 days throughout their lives. This doesn't indicate that something is wrong. The ideal period length is the average you have for each period. A normal period day would be using 3-5 pads, or changing out your cup 3-4 times a day. More on the first couple of days when periods are usually heavier. If you have to use more than 5-7 pads during all days of your period and feel increasing fatigue it would be ideal to get it checked to ensure there is no cause for heavy bleeding and you don't have anemia as a result.

At its core, the connection between Ayurveda and Women health is rooted in the balance and harmony of the female body. The ancient Indian practice of Ayurveda recognizes that each woman has unique needs, and through mindful practices such as yoga, diet and lifestyle, it seeks to empower women to embrace their natural cycles.Ayurveda works to achieve balance by addressing the three doshas, or subtle energies that govern our bodies. These doshas are known as vata, pitta and kapha. Each dosha is associated with the elements of wind, fire, and water respectively and serve to regulate the physical body and the mind. When our doshas are in balance, we are healthy, vibrant and radiating peace. At a deeper level, Ayurveda looks at the physiological changes that happen in the body during our menstrual cycle. On a vata dosha day, for example, a woman may experience feelings of restlessness or anxiety. On a pitta day, she may have an increased appetite or feel irritable. And on a kapha day, she may be proneto fatigue or have difficulty concentrating. By acknowledging these nuances and adjusting her diet and lifestyle accordingly, a woman can learn to identify which foods will best nourish and restore her balance during the different phases of her cycle. Ayurveda Priests or holistic health practitioners are also available to guide women in developing a meaningful relationship with their menstrual cycle. Through such practices as yoga, meditation, massage, and breathwork, these professionals help women understand not only their body’s response to their monthly fluctuations, but also how to intuitively respond to them. Ultimately, Ayurveda provides a safe, holistic space for women to honour and celebrate their cycle as an important part of their emotional and physical wellbeing. By becoming more mindful and aware of the subtle changes that occur each month from one dosha to another, women are able to learn how to better nourish and care for their bodies .more
