I experience cravings (or other symptoms) during my period. Can nutrition help manage these, and are there any foods I should avoid that might worsen symptoms?

Hi there, I hope you are well. Yes, nutrition can help you in managing cravings felt during menstruation. - Include enough fibre in your diet with the help of fruits, vegetables, wholegrains, beans, lentils, and nuts. Fibre can help you in keeping your full for longer and your cravings shall reduce gradually. - Protein is necessary as it helps in providing satiety and keeps cravings at bay. Ideally, it can balance blood sugar levels which is why you'd see reduction of cravings. - Add nuts, seeds, fatty fish, eggs, avocado, olive oil to get enough Omega 3 fatty acids, which is great for managing cravings and other symptoms related to PMS, and periods. - Drink at least 8-10 glasses of water/day. - Eat home-cooked meals, and keep a tab on your salt, sugar, and oil intake. Foods to avoid - - Excessive caffeine - Excessive chocolate consumption ( you can have dark chocolate once in 3 days) - Maida and maida based products - Packaged foods like chips, biscuits, etc. - Ree meat/pork -Alcohol
